iPhone setup

For reliable tracking, the iOS app needs Location permission with Precise Location enabled. iOS does not have an “Unrestricted battery” toggle, but the settings below help prevent iOS from pausing tracking.

Quick checklist

  • Location Services ON
  • Apex250 → Location: While Using the App (start here)
  • Precise Location ON
  • Low Power Mode OFF while racing
  • Background App Refresh ON (if available)
  • For best reliability: keep the app open in the foreground while recording

Tip: If you can’t find a menu item, pull down in Settings and use the search box for “Location”, “Precise”, “Low Power Mode”, or “Background App Refresh”.

Location permission

Apex250 uses GPS/GNSS to detect the 250m out-and-back and the apex turn. Recommended: While Using the App + Precise Location.

Method 1: Settings → Apex250 (fast)

  1. Open Settings
  2. Scroll to Apex250 (or search for it)
  3. Tap Location
  4. Select While Using the App

Method 2: Privacy & Security

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Privacy & Security
  3. Tap Location Services
  4. Scroll to Apex250
  5. Select While Using the App
Important: If you choose Ask Next Time or Never, tracking will not work.

Enable Precise Location

On iOS 14+, each app can use Precise Location (best) or approximate location (worse for timing).

  1. Open SettingsPrivacy & SecurityLocation Services
  2. Tap Apex250
  3. Turn Precise Location ON
Why this matters: Apex250 relies on accurate distance + speed. If Precise is OFF, runs may fail to detect, or timing can vary.

Background & battery settings (iOS)

iOS manages battery automatically. These settings reduce the chance that iOS pauses the app during a run.

Turn off Low Power Mode

  1. Open SettingsBattery
  2. Disable Low Power Mode while racing

Low Power Mode can reduce background activity and GPS update rates.

Background App Refresh

  1. Open SettingsGeneralBackground App Refresh
  2. Make sure it’s ON (Wi‑Fi or Wi‑Fi & Cellular)
  3. Enable it for Apex250 if shown

If this menu is missing, your device may restrict it (e.g., managed phone) or it may be disabled globally.

Best practice while riding: Keep the app open in the foreground. If you find iOS pauses tracking when the screen locks, consider temporarily setting Auto‑Lock to a longer time (Settings → Display & Brightness → Auto‑Lock).

Troubleshooting

Runs not detected

  • Check Location Services is ON
  • Confirm While Using the App permission is set
  • Enable Precise Location
  • Go outdoors and wait briefly for a strong GPS fix

Tracking pauses / stops

  • Turn OFF Low Power Mode
  • Keep the app open in the foreground while riding
  • Avoid fully locking the screen if you see pauses
Still stuck? If the iOS app includes a debug upload feature, send a debug log to the admin for diagnosis.

FAQ

Should I choose “While Using the App” or “Always” for Location?
Start with “While Using the App” + Precise Location. For best reliability, keep the app open in the foreground while riding. If the iOS app supports background tracking and you want to lock your screen, you may need “Always” (and iOS will typically ask for this after a few uses).
What is Precise Location and why does it matter?
Precise Location uses GPS/GNSS for accurate speed and distance. Apex250 uses this to detect the 250m out-and-back and the apex turn. If Precise is off, runs can become inconsistent or invalid.
Is there an “Unrestricted battery” setting on iPhone?
iOS does not have an “Unrestricted” toggle like Android. The closest equivalents are: turn OFF Low Power Mode, keep Background App Refresh enabled, and keep the app open in the foreground while recording.
