Android setup

To get reliable hands‑free tracking, Apex250 needs Precise location and (on many phones) Unrestricted battery access. Menus can differ slightly per Android version and phone brand.

Allow location Set the app to Allow only while using the app and keep location services on.
Use Precise GPS Approximate location can make runs inconsistent or invalid.
Disable battery limits Set battery use to Unrestricted or Don’t optimise before testing.

Quick checklist

  • Location Services ON
  • Apex250 / ApexRecorder Location permission: Allow only while using the app
  • Precise location ON (not Approximate)
  • Battery usage: set to Unrestricted (or “Don’t optimise”)
  • Disable Battery Saver / Power saving while racing

Tip: You can usually open the right screen quickly by long‑pressing the app icon → App info.

GPS / Location permission

Apex250 needs location permission to measure the out‑and‑back distance and detect the apex turn. Recommended: Allow only while using the app + Precise location.

Method 1: App info (fast)

  1. Find the Apex250 app icon
  2. Long‑press → App info (or the “i” icon)
  3. Tap Permissions
  4. Tap Location
  5. Select Allow only while using the app

Method 2: Settings menu

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Location
  3. Tap App location permissions
  4. Select Apex250
  5. Choose Allow only while using the app
Precise vs Approximate: On Android 12+, you can often toggle Precise location on the same screen as the permission. Keep Precise enabled for best timing accuracy.

Battery: set to Unrestricted

Some phones aggressively pause apps in the background when the screen turns off or the phone is in a pocket. Setting battery usage to Unrestricted helps Apex250 keep recording.

Common path (Android 12/13/14)

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap AppsSee all apps (if needed)
  3. Tap Apex250
  4. Tap Battery (or App battery usage)
  5. Select Unrestricted (or “Don’t optimise”)

Extra things to check

  • Turn off Battery Saver / Power saving while racing
  • If your phone has “Sleeping apps” / “Deep sleep”, make sure Apex250 is not listed there
  • Allow Background activity / Background usage if you see that option

If you can’t find it: use Settings search for “Unrestricted”, “optimise”, or “battery usage”.

Troubleshooting

Runs not detected

  • Make sure Location is ON and permission is granted
  • Enable Precise location
  • Go outdoors and wait a moment for a solid GNSS fix
  • Avoid riding next to tall buildings/trees if possible

Tracking stops / pauses

  • Set Battery to Unrestricted
  • Disable Battery Saver / Power saving
  • Keep the app open while riding (foreground)
Still stuck? Use the app’s debug overlay (long‑press the logo) and send the debug upload to the admin for diagnosis.

FAQ

Do I need “Allow all the time” location?
Usually not. Apex250 works best when the app is open and tracking (foreground). Start with “Allow only while using the app” + Precise location. If your phone stops tracking when the screen turns off, keep the app open and set Battery usage to Unrestricted.
What should I choose: Precise or Approximate location?
Choose Precise. Apex250 uses GNSS speed/distance to detect the 250m out‑and‑back and the apex turn. Approximate location can make runs invalid or inconsistent.
I can’t find the Battery setting on my phone — where is it?
Try Settings → Apps → Apex250 → Battery (or “App battery usage”). On some phones it’s under “Battery optimisation” or “Power management”. You can also search in Settings for “Unrestricted” or “optimise”.
